Microfluidic Systems is developing next generation biological analysis products utilizing cutting edge microfluidics and biotechnology. From the onset, MFSI made a strategic decision to outsource system mechanical and electrical engineering work to D2M, which was the initiation of a long-term collaboration between D2M's interdisciplinary team and MFSI's team. D2M provided key electrical, mechanical, software development and design in parallel with MFSI's fluid handling and biological developments while supporting an aggressive development and test schedule.
The Details
D2M's electrical and software engineers produced the numerous electrical boards and software components that are utilized in the complex biological system. The PCBA's supported a distributed multi-thread environment with numerous micro-controllers. D2M made significant achievements in the mechanical scope of work, which included design of the weatherproof enclosure, thermal controls, reagent storage system, and all internal support structures. D2M designed and tested a unique thermal control system to satisfy stringent requirements that allow the units to operate within an environmental temperature range of -20 to 120 degrees F, while maintaining the internal thermal environment within +/-1 degree F through compartmentalization. Sourcing and purchasing for the numerous boards and components within in the units were largely accomplished by D2M. Throughout our long-term relationship with MFSI, they depended on D2M as closely as an internal resource.
