iMetrikus
Air Watch
Asthma suffers can typically predict a good or bad day by breathing in deeply and forcefully exhaling into a peak flow meter (or spyrometer). Such devices are common and mechanically measure volume in the first second of flow as well as peak flow, but they offer limited feedback information to the user. D2M worked with iMetrikus to redesign the hardware and software of their Air Watch lung sensing meter while simultaneously reducing cost and adding functionality. This product was used in the U.S. and abroad by suffers of asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
The Details
The iMetrikus Air Watch originally driven by a Motorola processor designed for the pager industry. This processor reached its end of life in production and was deemed inappropriate for continued use in the updated product. iMetrikus came to D2M with the task of replacing this processor with a performance appropriate and cost effective alternative. This new processor was also required to support the redesign of several key functions and the introduction of new several hardware driven features.
D2M successfully met all of the client’s design goals by selecting a new, highly-functional, and cost effective processor, while adding additional hardware features and rewriting the code in C to replicate and enhance the product performance. Our engineers delivered all design databases (schematics, layout, BOM) as well as firmware source code. Throughout the project, D2M worked with iMetrikus to successfully produce all appropriate documentation to comply with the future FDA regulatory submissions, and fit within the original product’s plastic enclosure and power consumption footprint.
