Cervical Cancer Detection System for Developing Worlds
200,000 women around the world are diagnosed with cervical cancer, a preventable disease that kills thousands of women each year. The scarcity of regular screenings and the high-cost of the diagnostic equipment leaves women in the developing world more susceptible to the disease. Imagyn and Family Health Ministries have teamed up to develop and implement a low-cost cervical cancer diagnostic tool for the developing world. With a pilot program started in Haiti, Imagyn plans to conduct field tests in 2008 to further their design with the intention of bringing the design into production.
In summer of 2007, D2M’s mechanical engineering team participated in a brainstorm with Imagyn’s founder, Theo Tam, to generate ideas for the integration of the lighting components and the chassis for field-testing prototypes.
