Reversible Roller Wrench

Ratcheting socket wrenches are undoubtedly useful items in a workman’s toolbelt, but its functionality becomes limited in tight applications. D2M tackled this problem and developed considerable intellectual property for CD Ventures to enter into a licensing deal with Snap-On Tools. The final wrench mechanism innovatively eliminated backlash, making it possible for socket wrenches to provide functionality in space-limited situations.

Client Testimonial
“D2M was awesome from start to finish. The design challenge that D2M overcame was one that most product development firms would run from. It required working with and successfully meeting the most intimidating mechanical constraints, all the while maintaining a high degree of manufacturability and cost-consciousness. They are a strategic partner that I would not hesitate to work with again!”

The Details
The utility of ratcheting socket wrenches is limited in tight spaces due to backlash in the reversible roller clutch mechanism. In order to improve upon the common ratcheting design, D2M to explored ways of improving the clutch via mechanism design, prototype builds, and research in metallurgy for high-stress applications. In parallel to mechanism design and prototype development for CD Ventures, our engineers supported test protocols for the licensing deal with Snap-On Tools. D2M engineers offer knowledge in steel processes, advanced alloys, tooled steel, and mechanical designs that facilitate manufacturing with these materials.
