Apieron
Breath Analyzer

More than 18 million people are diagnosed with asthma in the United States – there is a clear need for a device that helps asthma sufferers prevent attacks by identifying triggers. With Apieron’s breath analyzer, asthma sufferers can self-monitor the likelihood of an oncoming asthma attack, and therefore better manage the risk of exposure to triggers throughout the day. D2M’s wealth of experience in electrical board design, pneumatics, and testing proved to be a strong match for Apieron’s need to develop a platform and user interface for their biotechnology.

The Details
Apieron’s analyzer technology detects the amount of nitric oxide in a user’s breath as an indicator of lung inflammation and the likelihood of an asthma attack. Additionally, nitric oxide measurements provide a means of monitoring a patient’s response to anti-inflammatory therapy, such as inhaler medication. D2M’s technical contribution to Apieron’s breath analyzer includes the design of all clinical device boards, test fixtures, and noise reduction solutions. Additionally, we investigated a cost-reduction of the breath handling system and performed a top-down forward projection of cost. Apieron counted on us to develop a high level BOM for high volume production, and provide cost estimates for custom fabricated parts.
